About GMR
The Global Media Registry is a non-profit social enterprise that supports transparency, accountability and pluralism in the digital information space.
"Our information system is London’s stinking streets before the Victorian miracle of sanitation. We fixed that through engineering."
– Carole Cadwalladr in the Guardian, November 2024

OUR MISSION
We are a 21st century data utility at the nexus of media, technology and regulation. As such, we are a service provider and solution hub for newsrooms, regulators and policy makers, and for all stakeholders that engage with the media industry. In doing so, we fill the gap between campaigns-driven advocacy groups, implementation-oriented media development organisations, and academia.
With a focus on practical, actionable results, our style of work is journalistic and the outcome non-judgemental and purely factual. We do not fight moral battles.
As a data-driven enterprise, our success depends on a backbone made of robust, scalable and interoperable processes and infrastructure. We thrive on excellence in this domain.

OUR VALUES
We recognize and capitalise on our past engagements, deriving expertise and a human-rights-based approach from it. In addition, the ethical foundation of our work is rigour and diligence. We live up to our promises and apply the do-no-harm principle.
As a diverse, hybrid and networked entity, we put trust in each other, including our stakeholders, clients and partners, at the forefront of our collaborative principles.
With a visible, innovative edge, we aspire thought leadership in the areas in which we operate.

OUR NETWORK
Our network, built on long-standing partnerships with leading actors in this space, is essential for our upward trajectory. Collaboration happens at eye-level and rests on trust, reliability and mutually shared mission and values.
We partner with a wide range of different entities around the world – including NGOs, international organisations and professional associations, research institutions, public and private sector actors – to exchange knowledge, to implement projects together and, more broadly, to contribute to our common cause.
The GMR is a member of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) and the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN), a consortium member of the Global Media and Internet Concentration Project (GMICP) and a member of the Global Open Data Integration Network (GODIN).
